Intrigue in New Paristan

ooc: I'll move the main RP for what's happening in New Paristan to this thread, so it's not all garbled up with the "pew pew pew" nonsense in the news thread. Honestly, we need a little more structure in our RP, methinks.

Statement by General Napoleon:

"The Marxist Social Democratic Workers' Party of New Paristan welcomes the aid of the international community in rebuilding our country after years of anarchy. Socialism must be structured, must be led, must be controlled and carefully guided. The cadres being set up right now across our country will teach our workers how to become truly equal comrades, working for the good of each other and the State. All workers' cooperatives and independent trade unions will be taken under the purview of the Central Planning Committee and the Politburo. All economic activity in the nation will be coordinated by the Workers' Congress, to be convened shortly in Montmartre, led by the brave cadres of the MSDWP.

We anticipate an eventual return to democracy, but such a return will be dictated entirely by conditions as observed by our Party committees.

All glory to the workers! All glory to New Paristan!"


Meanwhile, a rogue broadcast is picked up coming from somewhere in New Paristan.


We seek the aid of the international community. Our nation is being torn apart. Riots in the streets as free workers fight Bolshevik cadres, as the military itself splits into two sides. Tragically, the majority of our military sides with the Bolsheviks against the free workers. We are establishing the Free Workers Liberation Front, a resistance movement dedicated to bringing down the totalitarian rule of the Bolsheviks and returning New Paristan to its former glory as a free and democratic workers' state.

We implore the international community not to fall for the propaganda of General Napoleon and his ruthless cadres. Please help the FWLF in its fight against the Bolsheviks. We lost our chains once; now the Bolsheviks want us to put on new ones. Don't let that happen!"

Finally, a third broadcast is heard:


Nations of the world, heed the call! The civil war in New Paristan is your opportunity! We are a group of former capitalists, bankers, owners of industry. We want to return New Paristan to its rightful place as a nation of free markets and free minds, where business can thrive and international investment is welcome, free from the burdensome nonsense of worker control. Innovation, investment, freedom. Come fight on the side of the Freedom and Opportunity Coalition - we've got about a third of the military on our side, and a growing number of Paristani citizens joining the cause."

GLA's 157rd infantry 5,000 strong will join the democratic side,the Freedom and Opportunity Coalition.

New Malizia send 100 men from Malizia Royal Army Outer Unit Division (OUD) to join The Marxist Social Democratic Workers Party.

"Dont worry they are properly trained and you can use them as you see fit" said Minister of Defense of New Malizia.

Inside the Workers' Militia headquarters (Bolsheviks):

"100 guys? What do they expect us to do with 100 guys?" General Napoleon hung up the phone. Nice token, he thought, but pretty useless.

The war was going well, but General Napoleon knew that to truly transform the country into the clockwork machine of state socialism that he wanted, he'd have to crush the rebellious spirit of the so-called "Free Workers." The absolute anarchy of the past twenty years was just untenable.

A minor strategist handed him a memo. "Reports of more riots in Jospin, Comrade General. They've raised barricades and are successfully holding back our units."

"Send those 100 guys from New Malizia. Might as well put 'em to use."

The Georgian forces arrive by nightfall.  They are greeted by General Marc Sarkozy, who escorts them to a series of commandeered military vehicles. Due to the size of the Georgian forces, Sarkozy directs that they split up into 10 groups and travel different routes to the rendez-vous at a secret base somewhere near Autreville. All groups are instructed to watch out for roadside ambushes.

General Sarkozy travels with the leader of the Georgian forces, to whom he asks: "So why are you helping us?  What skills do you have?  What do you hope to gain here?"

After receiving telegram from New Paristan Workers' Militia the New Malizia sent 100 men from the Malizia Royal Army Outer Unit Division which is trained for outer ops such as stealth mission and so on. The soldiers arrive at the New Paristan Workers' Militia airport a few hours later. An army truck is already waiting for them to head for Jospin. The soldiers are brief with information about the current operation "Operation Jospin" which the main objective of the operation is to take over Jospin.

The soldiers assembled in a forest near Jospin to create an ambush. One of the soldier from New Malizia suggest that we disguise before making an ambush and the idea is accepted. They capture a few soldiers from the riots men who is patrolling around the city. After changing they sneak into Jospin undetected and getting into position as fast as they can before the ambush is initiate.

4,000 Imperial Japanese Forces,900 fighter aircraft and 100 naval warships will join the democratic side to bring New Paristan back to it's former state.

OOC: Japan - there are two sides who would claim to be "democratic." Are you on the side of the Free Workers or the Capitalists?

OOC: Couple of things.  Not bad RPing, but you did break a rule.  Generally, you can't act for the other side.  So instead of saying "they sneak into Jospin undetected," you should say "they attempt to sneak in undetected."  Then, I, as the "dungeonmaster" of this RP, will determine if they succeeded in sneaking (think of a Dungeons & Dragons game - minus the dice).  For the purposes of this RP, I'll allow that your guys got through the front lines undetected, but...

"Halt - who goes there?"  The Malizian troops have encountered a roadblock manned by Free Worker guards armed with semi-automatic rifles.  You can't see exactly how many Free Worker troops there are.  

OOC: I'm not speaking for your characterrs - so your next move is to try to convince my guys that your guys are on their side.

The soldiers stop and one of them went straight to the Free Workers guard.

"Our shift has ended. Please let us through." He tried to convince the guard.

"We must report in or not the captain will think that we have die. That will cause a lot of trouble you know." he continue.

A guard speaks up. "Yeah, that's not going to work, mate. Who you really working for? Be smart about your answer, because it may just save your life."

OOC: Would anyone be interested in actually rolling dice for stuff like this? I'm willing to give it a shot. As DM, I'll determine beforehand what roll number you need to hit to reach a particular objective, and we'll stick with 20-sided dice for simplicity's sake.

This would be helpful in the exchange between the Malizians and the Paristani guards, for example, to make it more fair - I can't just handwave "no, you didn't convince them." You'd roll, and say, if you get an 18, then you convince them and I have to follow that. Of course, the other side of that is you don't know what I'm rolling to counter your bluff, but that's the nature of the game.

While the soldier still tries to convince the guard, one of the soldiers at the back tries to sent a distress signal to the main platoon which is getting ready for the ambush. The captain receive the signal and try to move some soldiers to help them. A few minutes later the soldiers arrive at the forest near the roadblock getting ready to neutralize the guard with non-lethal force as they were ordered to do so. They jump in after seeing the soldier fail to convince the guard and tries to knock them down with a stun gun but two of them fail as the guards notice their ambush. The other soldiers who disguise themselves as patrolman point at the guards with their weapons to make them surrender.

ooc: did i break the rules when i say i manage to stun a few guards but two of them manage to get away? just asking

ooc: and about the dice dont worry about it. its your call as DM to create the story how you want and i continue it. (well im still a newbie)

ooc: Well I had my bicycle stolen last night, so I'm not really going to be in the mood for this for a little while. Stay tuned though.

The Japanese troops find themselves under attack by heavy artillery fire as they try to maneuver their boats into Montmartre harbor. It is unclear who is firing or which side they're on.

ooc: Right, I think the ball is in all of your various courts. Please respond to the last thing that I posted in relation to your troop movements. Then we can continue.

ooc: Well, since we've all lost interest in this, I guess I'll resolve it. Partially my fault for wandering off after my bike was stolen, and also I guess I didn't make clear that I wanted this to be a more traditional "you move, then I move" RP scenario, which might not be something you all are familiar with or capable of.

War rages across the countryside. In Jospin, the free workers' barricade is finally breached by Bolshevik forces, who overrun the town and imprison or execute the leaders of the Free Workers coalition. The death toll soars into the tens of thousands.

In the aftermath, citizens are "politely requested" to report to Party headquarters to receive "work and education assignments" to assist in "building a new socialist state, guided by the Party, led by the workers."

In Montmartre, a more protracted battle is fought between the Bolsheviks and a large influx of pro-capitalist troops from Japan. There is a language barrier problem that prevents the Japanese capitalists and the Paristani capitalists from coordinating strategy, so the Bolsheviks are eventually able to outflank and outmaneuver them. Many of the city's most beautiful buildings and monuments are destroyed in the fighting, and at least 50,000 people are killed when the pro-capitalist forces detonate a 1 kt suitcase nuke in the heart of the city's trade district. Radioactive fallout will kill another 10,000 people within a few months before dissipating. The battle drags to a stalemate position for several weeks, with the Bolsheviks controlling the Eastern half of the city and the capitalists surrounding the western half of the city and controlling the harbor.

Meanwhile, in the south of the country, the Free Workers convene an emergency strategy meeting, drawing thousands, not just from that part of the Paristani military still loyal to the Free Workers (a not insignificant portion), but also from the general populace and trade unions. Workers put down their hammers and pick up rifles, rallying to the cause of preserving New Paristan's free and democratic spirit.

Ultimately, half a million troops, a dozen armored tank divisions, and a significant number of fighter jets, assemble for an all out assault. Half go to liberate Jospin, where a long and protracted battle is fought against the Bolshevik forces. During the fighting, General Napoleon is killed.
