The Catham Islands Extends Support to War Ravaged Neighbour



What was initially planned as a blood-less coup has quickly developed into conflict as the Socialists refuse to give up their hold over the Yuktobanian Union. The Civil War has largely been shadowed by conflicts within Russia and Texania but the war is too close to home for The Catham Islands.  

On the outbreak of the Yuktobanian Civil War the leaders of the military uprising immediately asked the Catham Island government for help. However to this point support from The Catham Islands has only been seen in the form of supplies. Ivan Merkic, the Catham Island Foreign Minister, initially rejected requests for Catham Island forces to enter its neighbour, expressing fears that this could lead to a much larger conflict. Tomislav Nikolić did not agree with Merkic and after consulting with high profile MP’s, he told the General of the Yuktobanian Junta Forces last week that The Catham Islands would support his forces. Nikolić gave permission for a volunteer force to be assembled immediately to aid The Catham Islands new friends and neighbours.

This morning the extent of The Catham Islands support was finally realised by the Yuktobanian Junta Forces. The initial air force consists of 2 squadrons of A-10 Thunderbolts, 1 squadron of B-1 Lancers and 3 squadrons of F-35 fighter jets. This, coupled with the Excalibur installation, will ensure the Junta forces have complete air superiority. 12,000 volunteer service-men have also arrived in Yuktobania. The volunteer force, under the leadership of General Ljubiša Diković, will act as an autonomous unit responsible only to the Supreme Commander of the Yuktobanian Military.

Tomislav Nikolić has also ordered the Catham Island Navy to prevent aid from reaching the loyalist faction by sea. This will seriously hamper their ability to fight.

QUEEN GIVES BIRTH TO HEIRESS

The heiress is named Jaina Aetra Jeanne Margaretta Acribaldi-Nordahl and is the Crown Princess of Aloia and as a result, the Princess of New Germaine. Aloia has equal primogeniture so the gender of any future children of the Queen will not affect her position in the line of succession. Jaina is named for her great-grandmother, Queen Jaina IV; her grandmother, Queen Aetra II; her Aunt, Empress Jeanne I of the Holy Patrician States; and her aunt, Crown Princess Margaretta of Marquette. Jaina is the first cousin of the heir to the Patrician throne, Jeanne II, and will be related to any child the Crown Prince and Princess of Marquette have.

The birth has been met with huge celebrations by the Aloian and Genolian populace.

In the early hours of the morning, the Socialist forces following Nikanor had begun a Mechanized Counter-Attack against the Junta taking troops completely by suprise and inflicting heavy casualties. The Operation is seemed to be code named "Endangered Ocelot" and has the intent of capturing areas of the coast and the second largest city, Sudentor. After a hours of fighting, Junta Forces have been pushed back 1000 km, and the Socialist Forces have taken some coastline.

Reinforcing troops of the 11th Corps arrived just in time to stop the Socialist push on Sudentor. It is expected within 24 hours a counter attack will be organized in the south to re-unite the nation, and with the help of the Catham troops it shall succeed.

TURNING POINT
How Casavarrian political balance could change forever

After many years of silent transformation, culminated in the promulgation of the Grand Ducal Edict 2/2013, the House of Parliament has become the center of the political life in Casavarr: its members are no longer nominated by the Minister of the Interior on the basis of national surveys, but chosen by the people thought free elections. Furthermore, the government gained independence from the Grand Duke's will and became dependent on Parliament itself. Accordingly to this, the importance of political parties has enormously increased, since now their agreements allow the formation of the government.

The Moderate Party (MP), located at the center of the political spectrum and led by Lord Alcyde De Jaspers, won the last elections and became the first party of Casavarr, holding 301 out of 900 seats in the Parliament (33%). Therefore, his secretary was encharged with the duty of forming a government by the Grand Duke.

In order to select the members of the Grand Ducal Council of Ministers, he had to choose between two paths: right or left. An alliance with DCP and AU or with DCP and CLP was the most stable alternative. However, that would have meant the end of the reforms or even an involution. Therefore, Lord Alcyde De Jaspers began a long negotiation with the second party of Casavarr: the Social Democratic one.

Soon Peter Nens, leader of the SDPC, proved himself a tougher nut to crack than Lord De Jaspers expected: as a condition to create the alliance, he asked the inclusion of the Communist Party of Casavarr inside the government.

The risk of a drastic shift of the executive to the left-wing was avoided only thanks to the formidable negotiating skill of Lord De Jaspers, who managed to persuade Jules Andreotts, leader of the Democratic Conservatives, to join him.
Finally, a MP-DCP-SDPC-CPC government was formed.

But this equilibrium is more than fragile, as it has been demonstrated by today's events. And after the New Tarajan's condemnation of the interview released by Lord Palmire Tojats - leader of the CPC - to a well known communist journal, it is in serious danger. Tomorrow, the Democratic Conservative Party is going to issue a motion of no confidence against the Minister of Justice, who has no intention to resign from his charge. Parliamentarians from PP, AU and CLP have already confirmed their support to the DCP's proposal, while MP has left freedom of conscience to his members.

Whatever the result, the political future of Casavarr depends on that vote and, more specifically, it depends on the side that will be chosen by the SDPC.

Relations between the allied powers of New Tarajan and Aloia seems to slowly return to normality, after the hurricane provoked by the declarations of Second Chancellor Marius Vanderlin, about the possibility to offer asylum to communist rebels from Texania.
After the touched brawl in the Diet, and serious protests in front of the Imperial Union embassy in Tarajan City, culminated with a launch of bottles against the building and the arrest of ten peoples affiliated to the more reactionary fringes of the Royal Tarajan Party, the new statements of Chancellor Beauchenne are a true panacea for the Kingdom political situation.
"New Tarajan have no problems to store this small bracket as an incident, like many others which can explode in the world of international relations" said the King during a press conference held at the Royal Palace: "The declaration of Chancellor Beauchenne demonstrates how the loyalty of Aloia to the SECURS ideas and to the principles of the fight against terrorism never come back."
His Majesty the King takes the occasion to proffers his "warmest felicitation to Queen Marina IV Victoria, our dear and loyal friend, for the birth of her new child, future Queen of Aloia and Genolia, whose future we believe, and hope, will be bright and prosperous."
On behalf of the House Van Vinkel and the Kingdom, His Majesty gave to Queen Marina, as a present, the property of Palace Van Telmar, one of the most ancient and prestigious aristocratic palaces in Tarajan City.

On the other side, the situation remains in the balance about the consequenced of the interview release by Casavarrian Minister of Justice, Lord Palmire Tojats, which also provoked a strong reaction in the Diet and on the streets.
The eyes of New Tarajan are now on the decision the House of Parliament will have to take soon about a proposal motion of no confidence against the Minister.
A motion the royal government looks with great favor: "We are surprised that a Minister, seeing what he has provoked with his words, did not decide to resign immediately. However, we are sure the House of Parliament will demonstrate once again the loyalty and friendship of Casavarr toward New Tarajan, by forcing Lord Tojats to resign. We will look very closely to the results of this votation." said Minister for Foreign Affairs Rumi.
Meanwhile, a new protest is being organized by the R.T.P. in front of the Casavarr Embassy contemporarily to the votation in the House of Parliament. The police will be deployed in force, in order to avoid further episodes of violence.

The motion of no confidence against the Minister of Justice has been put on the Parliamentary Agenda at 19.00 and still the situation is widely unclear.

His Enlightened Majesty, Lord Zerek De Reja, expresses his regret for New Tarajan's reaction: "We are terribly sorry for the Minister of Justice's statements and We want to reassure Our respect, loyalty and friendship to SECURS, Antanares, Eurussia and New Tarajan". However, the Grand Duke does not comment the current political crysis: "It is an issue that should only be resolved inside the government and We fear that We might affect the final result by taking either one or the other side. Deciding over politics in Casavarr is no more Our institutional duty".

Lord Tojats defends himself from the accusation: "My words have been decontextualized and  instrumentalized. The inteview I released had a pedagogical and philosophical object, not a political one". Afterwards, the Minister of Justice apologized for the misunderstandig with SECURS allies. However, he also affirmed his "irritation for the attempt of New Tarajan to condition Casavarr's politics".

Lord Andreotts, instead, exacerbates the critiques against Lord Tojats, an "irresponsible and proud person, who doesn't want to admit his faults". Harder are the accusations of Lord Alfred Covel, Duke of Farelia and leader of the Aristocratic Union (AU): "I personally wrote a letter of apology to King Friederick Wilhelm II Anoushiravan Van Vinkel for the most offensive words of that fool". Also the Luiss Einaud's Casavarrian Liberal Party (CLP) harshly comments the "inappropriate words" of Lord Tojats, asking for his resignation. Finally, the Patriot's Party (PP) has organized a public rally against the Minister of Justice.

On the other hand, the Margaret Kalog's Worker's Communist party expresses his full support to Comrade Tojats, a "victim of the capitalist plot", along with the Huges De La Malf's Republican Party (RP), who affirmes: "The accusations from the Kingdom of New Tarajan are empty, since they come from one of the most corrupted government in the world".

Meanwhile the two political giants, Moderate Party (MP) and Social Democratic Party of Casavarr (SDPC), are still negotiating. Lord Peter Nens, Minister of Internal Affairs and leader of the (SDPC), has been contacted during the night by both Lord Alcyde De Jaspers and Lord Tojats, but he has not taken a side yet. And also the Prime Minister has been quite ambiguous in his last public declaration: "MP doesn't want to create a displeasing fracture with the Communist Party of Casavarr, thus our parliamentaries are free to vote accordingly to their own conscience".

Now, more cheerful news. His Enlightened Majesty, Lord Zerek De Reja has sent His most gracious congratulations to Queen Marina IV Victoria of Aloia and Genolia and to Her consort, Prince Anders, Duke of Greensborough, for the birth of their heiress, Jaina Aetra Jeanne Margaretta Acribaldi-Nordahl, Crown Princess of Aloia. As a present, the Grand Duke of Casavarr donated to the child the Island of Les Gilles and his personal manor on it, with the title of Baroness of Les Gilles: "We hope to continue Our friendship with Aloia, a country with whom we shared a commonality of interests several times. Knowledge may bless their royal infant".

All the Patriot's Party, the Aristocratic Union, the Casavarriand Liberal Party, the Conservative Democratic Party, 274 parliamentaries from the Moderate Party and 231 from the Social Democratic Party of Casavarr voted favorably.

Only 27 abstained from the MP.

The Communist Party of Casavarr, the Worker's Communist Party, the Republican Party and 38 from the SDPC voted contrary.

Palmire Tojats declared sorrowful: "Tomorrow, the Grand Duke will receive my letter of resignation, since this is the people's will". And, talking about Lord Peter Nens, he affirmed: "That was an unexpected betrayal".

"Once again, the Grand Duchy of Casavarr has demonstrated the loyalty and friendship which link our two countries."
These are the words used by Minister for Foreign Affairs Rumi, in occasion of a special press conference held at the Royal Palace after the news about the results of the vote in the House of Parliament of Casavarr.
The decision of a great majority of the members of the Parliament to vote in favor of the motion of no confidence against Minister of Justice, Lord Palmire Tojats, proposed by the Democratic Conservative Party, has finally restored the calm inside the Tarajan political world.
"The words of Lord Tojats were an insult to Casavarr itself, first of all" said Minister Rumi: "The decision of the Parliament demonstrates how he was wrong."
The Minister criticized also Lord Tojats for defining New Tarajan as "one of the most corrupted government in the world".
"This is an insult we can esaily forget" said the Minister: "Luckily, now such an irresponsible person is out of the government of one of our most ancient ally."

The results of the vote was also followed by the Landsraad and the Diet. Members of the Royal Tarajan Party have received it with an applause which lasted five minutes.
Also on the streets, the crowd assembled in front of the Casavarr Embassy demonstrated its joy for the news with music, songs, and bottles of wine.
"We thank the House of Parliament of Casavarr" said one of the representatives of the protesters: "We cannot believe such insults came from a real Casavarrian."
Small groups of communists tried to organize a counter-protest near Palace Van Geldern, as demonstration of solidarity toward Lord Tojats, but the rapid intervention of the police has dispersed them.
To celebrate the moment, the King has organized a ceremony at the Royal Palace, also taking the occasion of the birthday of his cousin, Conrad Van Vinkel, Landgrave of the Sdudeti-Karabak.
During the party, the King himself bestowed new noble titles to Minister Rumi, which now adds the title of Prince of Harlingen (a small town in the Grand Duchy of Merlberg) to the previous ducal one, and an honorary title also to the new-born Crown Princess of Aloia, Jaina Aetra Jeanne Margaretta Acribaldi-Nordahl, now Duchess of Aalsmeer (another town of the Grand Duchy of Merlberg).
"I simply thought yesterday" said the King, joking during the party: "That it was a shame to give a Palace of a very ancient family, without giving also the title and the fief of the same family."
His Majesty was referring about Palace Van Telmar, donated to the Crown Princess as a present. House Van Telmar finished its life three years ago, with the death of the last heir of the dynasty, so all its properties and fiefs have returned to the crown. And Aalsmeer was the main fief of the House.

Earlier the Junta forces have finally secured the Eastern portion of the country from the hands of the Socialists. This is a pivotal point in the civil war, freeing up more troops to fight back the Western Advances. With the help of the troops and materials from Caterham, a counter to the socialist counter-attack is being planned immediately. The country is cut in half and must be reunited immediately. General Dimitr Zubov, Leader of the Junta Forces, has proclaimed that the war will not last much longer.
