The Election Day for the Royal Diet is finally finished, and now the Kingdom is facing the new political reality which is getting out from the results.
And the situation seems to be all but comfortable: the reactionary-conservative coalition, composed by the Royal Tarajan Party and the White Party gained the 45% of seats, a predominant position they never had after the reigns of Conrad III and Conrad IV.
But this apparent prelude of the return to the "old-fashioned" reactionary Kingdom is soon to be challenged by the 55% of seats given to the coalition of the liberal Blue Party (to which the actual Prime Minister and most part of the government belong) and the Tarajan Social-Democratic Party (which gained an unprecedented 27%).
A complete balance-of-power between the two coalitions, product of the recent developments in the Kingdom foreign relations: from the tensions with Eurussia during the Koryan War and the Luthenian Revolution (which allowed the R.T.P. and the Whites to rise as champions of the Tarajani power-policy), and the spread of communist and revolutionary movements in the region, to the recent alliance with New-Zealand and the liberation of North Ajania.

These results promised to create further political instability in the Kingdom, probably disrupting the delicate balance born after the resignation of Conrad Van Vinkel (formed head of the Blue Party, and cousing of the King) from the seat of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in favour of the newly-created crown of Landgrave of Sdudeti-Karabak.
A decision which was promoted by King Friederick Wilhelm to resolve the dangerous impasse created by the pressures of the reactionary leadership of the Tarajani military, in order to find a compromise, while not rejecting the liberal orientation of the sovereign (which ultimately lead to the loss of power of the White Party, the historical "right-hand" of Tarajani kings, after the coronation of King Friederick himself).
After that crisis, and a touched military coup, Esther Farah Rumaki, Minister of Economy and Finance and Deputy Prime Minister, became the new leader of the Blue Party, while the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs was filled by former governor of Sdudeti-Karabak, and member of the White Party, Constantin Dilaver Rumi.
And now the storm seems to be going to hit Rumi himself: he lost the support of the R.T.P. and the White Party following the tensions with Eurussia (the conclusion of which the two parties believed to be a political debalce of the Kingdom, with Minister Rumi as the main responsible), while, on the other side, he was never thought to be a comfortable interlocutor for the Blue Party and the TSDP. Thus, he is in the most difficult position, and it is not difficult for many analysts to see in the unpleasant minister the perfect scapegoat to help resolve the new political impasse, especially after Prime Minister Rumaki announced, from Aloia, the decision to implement imminent changes in the government.
A desperate maneuver, aimed to avoid the escalation of a new political crisis, while the international arena is becoming far more dangerous, and also the only possible solution, while awaiting for the next move of the Landsraad, always the pillar of the political stability of the Kingdom, which could be the only wall against the tide.
No details have been delivered about these changes, but their success, or their failure, will surely be the success or the failure of the government, and of the entire liberal project of King Friederick.

FREYHOLT SUFFERS UNDER INCOME INEQUALITY

Marquette of Arctic (Arktikos), located in the far southern reaches of the globe, has been the leading oil exporter in the Marquetien states since the early 1920's. The economy of the country has boomed in recent years, with constantly increasing demands for oil, but has the immense drilling industry made Arktikos a less desirable place to live?

In 2005 I traveled to the capital of Arktikos, Freyholt, to visit my parents in the fishery they own just twenty kilometres south of the city. While there, I realized just how much poverty there is in Arktikos. Growing up, I never wanted for much. Our fishery has always been somewhat prosperous and we rarely went into the "big city" so I never got to see what hardships my fellow Arktikans were facing as a kid, but I did know that lots of my friends were not as well off as I. As a kid I loosely understood that Arktikos was kind of a backwater of the Marquetien states, one that only miners and entrepreneurs went to.

I never lived there long enough to come to the understanding of what effect having two vastly different social classes  had on Arktikos, as I went to a boarding school in Anglatown in Marquette of Pacific in 1986, at age fourteen. Apart from summers during high school, I never spent much more time in Arktikos (apart from visiting family members and such) from then until just a few months ago, when I was sent to write an editorial about the social and economic situation in the country. What I found was shocking, and definitely not what I expected from a Marquetien state.

On January 24th of 2013, Arktikan author Nicholas White, columnist from the Telhados Times Johann Zehetmair, and myself arrived in Freyholt at the very beginning of summer. We had but one purpose: to compose an editorial on the economic and social situation of the nation for the Marquetien International News Agency (MINA) and the Telhados Times. The center of Freyholt is said to be one of the quaintest small-city downtowns in the world, but that was true even in the 80's. It was apparent to me that nothing had changed since 2005, when I was last in the city. The same local shops that had been there for decades were still there, although some modern and multi-national stores like Best-Buy had certainly moved in. This to us only proved the economic homogeneity of the country. The center of town is prosperous and wealthy. People own big houses and go to nice restaurants, but what of the rest of town? To get a more balanced view of Freyholt, we moved to the outskirts of town, where the mining communities are.

About ten minutes outside of downtown, we started to move into more rundown parts of town. Lots of trailer homes, lots of poverty. The nice looking, prosperous shops and houses of the modern city's center disappeared and gave way to many old and crumbling buildings. No wonder the city is only globally praised for its downtown and not the rest of the city.

The rich largely live in the west, on the coast of the Fharshonia sea and the poor in the west. They go to different churches and attend different schools. They have different friends and work different jobs.

There are few successful businesses outside of downtown, as most people work at either the farms outside of town or the oil drilling fields, both owned by the richer inhabitants of the city.

On one street, you'll find The Daily Freyholt, the local newspaper with half of the letters missing from its sign; a "Price Cutter Discount Center," which advertises balloons and party supplies in a community that seems to have need for neither; and a corner store called Unique Fashion, which is where I found Mikael Zatthausen on a summer afternoon, sitting in a metal chair in front of an industrial-strength circular fan.

"How's business?" I asked.

"DEAD!" he said, without pause. "I ain't seen a customer all day."

There's also Uncle Theo's, a convenience store on Second Street, fifteen miles from the city center. Everybody knows that, outside, that's where you're likely to find the drug dealers.

Race is certainly part of the divide in Arktikos. The rich and landowning people are usually Germans, like my family. The lower class is usually made up of non-Marquetiens like Malandites or Snarfians in the country looking for work.

The other factor is illiteracy. Many immigrants neglect to learn Marquetien or German, the dominant two languages in the country. Without speaking either, it is impossible to get a permit from the local government allowing you to start up a business.

Kadri Aygun, now 60, left Snarfia and started working the oil fields at age twenty, after he moved to Arktikos to find work and to go to college. At 21, his girlfriend became pregnant. He left school and kept working in the fields while getting a second job at a local farm.

His starting wage: $3 per day.

And, like so many others here, he never got to live his dream of becoming a doctor.

"I guess I just had to get used to it," he said. "My dream was to come to Marquette to study to become a doctor and help save lives, but I now realize that coming here was like a death sentence to my dreams."

However, he came to Arktikos in a time of great hope, when the first of the liberal Chancellors took power. However they soon proved to be hurting the economy of the United Kingdom, but Marquetiens voted several more into office after that.

The end does not seem in sight for Arktikos, and the same type of poverty can be seen in countless other mining communities in the country. Some hope that this election year can give Marquette a Chancellor who vows reform in Arktikos, but others are not so optimistic.

"The liberal Chancellors did nothing to help us in past decades, and Charpentier hasn't done anything either. We need to face it, the rest of Marquette doesn't care enough about where its oil comes from." said Kurt Stoebner, columnist for The Daily Freyholt.

Mr. Stoebner brings up a valid point that is becoming an increasingly important topic in Besançon's political scene. As politicians begin to announce their candidacy for the Chancellory elections coming up at the end of this year, Arktikos waits patiently for its hero.

As Mr. Charpentier's sixth and final year of office begins, the Marquetien people are ready for the next Chancellory elections at the end of the year. While the Old Renéen Guards (ORG), Marquette's Conservative party, are still one of the most popular parties in the United Kingdom, Marquette's Parliament has failed to make an official ruling on homosexual marriage, so the Pink Rose Party (Marqutte's Liberal party) has somewhat died down in its omnipresent protests.

A party almost no one expected to join in the race for Chancellor is the Green Conservative party, a small party from Marquette of Ostfort that has been quickly gaining support in Marquette of Pacific and Wyland. The following are the people who have already announced candidacy:

-Joseph Charpentier (incumbent) : Candidate of the ORG (Old Renéean Guards), Age 64,  believes in strong family values, semi-isolationist, believes in the power of the corporation and is a fierce Capitalist Conservative. Doesn't like gay marriage and is not one for supporting multiculturalism as it has never worked in Marquette. Hasn't made any big decisions in his career as Chancellor, environmentalists are frustrated with him for not taking action to protect Marquette's beautiful landscapes and polluting the nation even more. Unpopular with Liberals and Socialists for his supporting the Catham Islands joining the United Kingdom. The Charpentier family has had several Chancellors in Marquette's history and countless members of Parliament and noble titles, many people are sick of the family ruling them and wants new blood. Qualifications: served 4 terms in Senate and 1 term in Chancellory.

-Susan Gregory: Candidate of the ORG (Old Renéean Guards), Age 45, agrees with Charpentier on many topics such as education and gay marriage, but believes Marquette should be far more open with its foreign policy. Acknowledges the importance of trade with foreign nations and believes in a small central government. Does not believe in multiculturalism or loose immigration laws. Qualifications: served 3 terms in Houes of Statutes, City Council of Anglatown for 7 years and Mayor of Anglatown for 1 term.

-Ton Koopman: Candidate of the PRP (Pink Rose Party), age 71, fierce Socialist Liberal, thinks multiculturalism and opening up borders is the best thing for Marquette, believes in large public sector and gay marriage. Wishes to open up trade and increase relations with Socialist nations like Europa and New-Zealand. Huge dislike for tariffs imposed on New-Zealander cars such as Holdens (imposed by Charpentier). Believes Marquetien Exceptionalism is out of date and does not work in a modern world. Qualifications: served 2 terms in Senate, Governor of Marquette of Pacific 2 terms.

-Vinícius Duarte- Candidate of the GCP (Green Conservative Party), Age 59, mid-right social conservative, moderate economic values. Supports Marquetien Exceptionalism and is a semi-isolationist regarding immigration but believes Marquette should open up trade with foreign nations more. However, supports tariffs on New-Zealander car companies. Does not support open border concept and does not support gay marriage, is a huge supporter of ethnic language schools and vows to revamp the system. Wants to regulate businesses to save the environment while retaining Marquette's prospering economy. Qualifications: 4 terms Mayor of Telhados, 2 terms Minister of Apreção.

As many have said before, time sure does fly. Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the legendary Holden Kingswood, the car that put NZ's flagship SOE Holden on the world map. Until the Kingswood, Holden had been a mediocre car company struggling to survive in the equally mediocre NZ Economy. Back then, NZ had a half baked socialist policy that saw the market under so much regulation that it was almost impossible for a economy in any essence to exist. The nation was under mountains of debt, unemployment was soaring, and the long standing Liberal Party (Who were back then the left wing faction). However under the leadership of Prime Minister Kirk, that all changed. He forced the Liberal Party to the centre left, indirectly pushing the Conservatives (Back then their main competition) to the far right, and set forward with a long string of market liberalisation that saw the free market of the Social Democracy begin to take shape. Over the next decade the Constitutional Monarchy of New-Zealand saw a surge in its economic progress, that saw the debt payed off, and the unemployment rate lowered. Kirks government dropped taxes, introducing a progressive system, and set the SOE's to become profit based companies. However the final push in the right direction came from none other than the legendary Holden Kingswood, a car that showed the world, and New-Zealand itself, the true extent of our nations engineering capability. The car made sales in numbers that Holden could have never imagined, and gave the government the financial backing it sorely needed. Over the following few decades, the Constitutional Monarchy continued on its path to economic prosperity, Holden continued its path to dominance, and the Socialist Party was born. It was all a build up, a build up that led to a unimaginable milestone for NZ. As the 21st century dawned, Holden released its VE Range and the Socialist Party came into power. The VE series took the world by storm, eating up foreign markets to such an extent that numerous countries, such as Marquette, had to result to hasty tariffs on Holden cars in a last ditch effort to protect their local manufacturers. The Socialist Party on the other hand, led by Michael Jefferson, took leaps in NZs history, starting with the ditching of the Ceremonial Novo Canuckian Monarchs (NZ was a colony founded by Novo Canuckia) and transitioning the Constitutional-Monarchy of New-Zealand to the Social Democracy of New-Zealand (A Republic) which saw the currency and the flag changed.


Today however, the world is continuously changing. Nations rise and fall, markets boom and collapse, but the Social Democracy remains constant. The now incumbent Socialist Party continues on the path set by Kirk, striving for the free market economic strategy that is unique to only our Liberal Democratic Socialist system. The Conservative party has lost almost all support, the Liberal Party has inched to the Centre Right, the Greens Party are gaining momentum, and the Socialist Party remains strong. The Prime Minister continues to run from nation to nation, on a mission to increase the dominance of its many SOE's so that it can continue to slowly drop taxes. Holden has released the VF range, the successor of the VE, and begun on its new global subsidiary plan, while at the same time devouring foreign markets who have come to love, revere and fear the brand. Thats bring us to the question, what is Holden really? Well, It's more than a brand... It's a legacy, a symbol, a motif for the NZ Economy, and the spirit of the Kiwi's. It's grown from a lowly car manufacturer, to a name that is chanted around board rooms, race tracks and school fields all over the country. Holden is not a company anymore, it is a part of us. As Ex Prime Minister Williams once joked during her inaugural speech,  "I never really understood why we still keep the fern up there in the corner of our flag. We should think about chucking the Holden Logo up instead."

The Eindhoven suicide case has caused in the last three days a vast debate throughout the Kingdom.
The death of Suzanne Grievhoven, 15 years old, who decided to hang herself at her home in the outskirts of the city, provoked a wave of indignation in New Tarajan, particularly after the police revealed that the main cause behind the desperate move was bullyism.
Pressed by the public opinion, the police rapidly succedeed in identyfing and arresting the responsibles, five young teenagers (14-18 y.o.), who were charged of incitement to suicide.
The final sentence is death penalty.
Judge Charles Maazawi, in charge of the trial, while reading the text of the sentence, commented to the five young boys: "You are not humans anymore, you are monsters. And we must protect ourselves from monster. My only regret is that nobody protected that girl from you."
The sentence was welcomed in the entire Kingdom as a "sign of justice", as Marcus Leen, representative of the R.T.P., said in front of the Diet this morning.
However, few small protests were organized by members of clandestine communist movements against what they called a "cruelty" and a "violation of human rights". The protesters were arrested by the police, and now accused of abetment.
Meanwhile, the five young boys await the execution of the sentence in prison, where the judge have forbidden also the visits of their parents.
Part of their families properties will be seized, and given to the family of the victim, as minimal (insufficient) compensation.

Many political analysts are praising the recent moves of Prime Minister Rumaki to resolve the difficult political crisis which threated to destroy the fragile consensus begind the government, by attacking former Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Rumi, and obliging him to resignation.
The main point has been the appointment of the social-democrat Jan Van Egeland-Sondenburg as new Minister of Foreign Affairs, and it seems the new minister rapidly managed to find a major approval both in the Diet and in the Landsraad.

The decision of the R.T.P. and the White Party, main rivals of the governmento, to approve the project was a clear sign of appreciation of the most recent decisions of the Royal Council, first of all the position expressed by Van Egeland-Sondenburg in the recent, new, diplomatic crisis with Eurussia, and his full-range diplomatic activity arounde the globe.



Finally, after years of work, the bulding process of the Shalimar Space Colony, sister of the Jahan Colony, the first space settlement of New Tarajan, has been completed.
